Very nice place to remember and relive the days of the greatest Nascar driver of all times Dale Earnhardt... I've wanted to visit this place for many years now and finally had the opportunity to today and I was very pleased with the displays and memoriabilia of the Man in Black the Intimidator who is still missed dearly to this day by race fans all over the world and myself especially... he'll be forever the Man!!!
I mean it's Dale Sr. so it's worth a visit. The cars are beautiful. The trophies are a great walk down memory lane. But the gift shop is a flea market from 2007.
Driving up to the facility was some what disappointing as there was no one there. They are limited on the dates and times you can visit so be sure to call first. Initially when you walk through the door you are in awe of the the #3 car sitting there front and center and beautiful huge pictures in behind and above the car of Dale, his 7 championship trophys are above the pictures and cars. This moment was surreal and very emotional for us. From that point on it all went downhill. Yes there were various displays of his uniforms and little else of the legacy of him. Seems to focus more on the foundation. DEI needs to celebrate the man and brighten the place up, we left there very depressed. Store has very little merchandise and was poorly displayed.. If you really want to visit a place that has really captured the legacy and the man Dale Earnhardt then head over to the RCR Museum and shops. Is about a 45 minute drive to Welcome, NC but so worth it. Employee in the gift shop at DEI was very kind.
Great venue. It was beautiful. The staff was awesome. Everything went off without a hitch. Worth every cent.
