Steer clear of this place, they use outdated scare tactics and the prices are marked waayyyy up. I’d used Meineke before for oil changes and received a coupon for 50% off on a brake job. Saturday morning I was there to get my brakes done. They assessed the car and provided a quote of approximately $750. The price “included the 50% off coupon”. Of course I declined the service because that’s insane for a 2011 Nissan Versa.
Really disappointed. I have used this Meineke for about two years now and did notice recently things not being done up to standards. Small things I let go recently like fluids not being topped off, etc. however, this last incident pushed me over the edge. My coolant light was flashing red so I promptly took it in as to AVOID doing engine damage. After they diagnosed the problem they said it was a bad pump. I paid $1,300.00 bucks for a new timing belt, coolant flush/fill and new water pump. About a week later, same problem again. Coolant light sporadicly on and off. I took it back in and they told me the coolant was a little low and they topped it off and assured me all was fine. I also asked twice that the correct coolant was used as it looked different. I was assured they used the correct stuff. Shortly after that coolant light came on again and this time when I pulled over it was majorly overheating (smoke blasting out of radiator cap and coolant overflowing everywhere). I left a YELP review with a video of the car overheating. Parked it immediately and it had to go to Subaru. Found out I now have blown head gaskets and close to $3,000 dollars in repairs. Needless to say I'm beyond done with this shop and will urge others to steer clear. You better believe I'm going to find an owners contact and making my voice heard.
Had an appointmet but still waited almost 5 hours for the work on my car to be completed. Then my Dad looked at the prices on the parts and told me I got way over charged. Will never come back!
Long story short, I went to “Express Oil Change – Tire Engineers” across from Panera and paid $250 for the front brakes, apparently my back brakes had “an additional 3 oil changes on them roughly 9 months”. In addition to better pricing the facility there was nicer, cleaner and across from Panera. Hope this helps someone.
The cashier inquired “What’s preventing you from moving forward”? The sheer fact that he thought I believed the original price for brake service was $1400 was just wow to me but I was honest “It’s the price, I expected to be in the $300-$400 range”, he proceeded to tell me that “the breaks are a safety concern at this time”, he advised “that the back brakes we’re so bad I needed new shoes. This really should be handled asap” he even recommended that I apply for financing. The sad part is if brakes were as expensive as this guy quoted I would need financing, so I declined.
I drive from charlotte just to come to this location. I always get excellent service, their fast and friendly.
Was told after the attempt of an installation for a aftermarket catalytic converter they did not fit and they had broken off a bolt in my cat to flange leaving me with an exhaust leak. Along with putting on a mufflee which was a bolt, and a few hangars, all of this for $250 which is ridiculous. When I asked when will the bolt be fixed they said they cannot complete the task that day, bring it in tomorrow for a "quote" and the cost to put the cat they took off back on added another $50. Definitely not somewhere I would stick around, especially when they are too lazy to fix something they broke which is their fault and it would take under 30 minutes, but the excuse was given "we didnt have the right aftermarket parts we were expected", which has nothing to do with how you broke my bolt and your tech now wasting one of my crush gaskets sealing it to the fault aftermarket cat. Ridiculous, strafe away.
***UPDATE AS OF 10/27 I confirmed that the leak was coming from a busted head gasket (photo attached with YELP review) and most likely not the water pump. I will say this: Meineke never showed me the old leak, or damaged parts they replaced (supposedly the leak was the water pump). Subaru showed me everything. I have ZERO doubts as to what was causing the coolant light issues. I also confirmed that the only coolant that should have ever touched that car should have been Subaru super coolant (some cheap off brand stuff was used) I asked Meineke multiple times about that since I really was unsure about a flush and fill using some generic coolant knowing how Subarus are. I should have listened to my gut and been more persistent with Meineke about my concerns. Very expensive lesson learned on my part.***
